Every maker has a story. I'm Dominic and on this page I share mine - how furniture making, camera craft, and construction became one studio.

The Maker

My love of making started in school, in the wood shop and art studio. After a formal apprenticeship and two decades working professionally across furniture, restoration, and building, I moved to Japan in 2016 - wanting to experience and learn new areas of the craft as well as share my Western woodcraft background.

Since arriving, I've trained in traditional kigumi joinery, taught workshops on photography and camera making, built and renovated homes, and created bespoke furniture. Over time the different practices - furniture, property work, and camera craft - have merged into one studio.

Current Work

Today I work across a diverse range of projects - furniture, property and camera craft are all connected to my love for woodcraft. I'm also the founder of the art and photography project: "Lens Punk" where we share art, writing and photography.

The studio is currently in transition, evolving toward a more open workshop model where clients are welcomed into the creative space. After many years of making, I'm more excited than ever about what's ahead - as the studio evolves, I look forward to future projects and the things yet to be made.

Philosophy

I create my own products, as well as collaborating with others. I look to solve challenging situations individually - using years of craft experience to make one of a kind works. I don't make pieces that look different for the sake of being different, simply works that are made to be used.
